Student Information

Housing

All students and faculty lived in Adams Hall during the 2009 APIP program. Located on the shore of Lake Mendota, Adams Hall is part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Housing.

All rooms are 14' by 10' and include air conditioning, linens and a pillow. Each room has an Ethernet port, so please be sure to bring your laptop computer and Ethernet cord for Internet access. Please click here for an information sheet provided by UW Housing. This sheet contains plenty of important details that APIP students will need for the summer.

For more information on Adams Hall, housing policies, and guidelines, please visit Summer Housing's web site. These photos are posted courtesy of the Division of University Housing, UW-Madison.

Language Contract

One major change to the contract will allow all participants to take a 'break' from the language contract every Friday after dinner, until breakfast on Saturday morning. During this time everyone is free to leave Adams Hall and experience the campus and Madison in any (safe) way. Please remember that the language contract is ALWAYS observed inside Adams Hall.

New for 2010 will be a modified langage contract for beginning students. This modified contract will allow beginning students the chance to learn some basic language skills before they must completely adhere to the language contract. Information on this will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

Campus Map

We will give all APIP participants a tour of campus, and you can use the UW-Madison campus map to orient yourself before you arrive. You can use the search box on the map to find any location on campus. Important places to visit include Adams Hall (APIP housing for the summer), Van Hise Hall (APIP classrooms), Ingraham Hall (APIP administrative offices), Memorial Library, and the Memorial Union.

APIP Refund Policies

Tuition refund policies are set by the University. APIP consists of two 4-week sessions (for Beginning and Intermediate students),or two 4-weeks sessions and one 8-week session (for Advanced students.) Tuition refund deadlines will be posted here as soon as they are available.

The refunds for room and board fees are set by the Division of University Housing. These fees will not be refunded unless the student has proof of extreme extenuating circumstances.

Textbooks and Incidentals

Once textbooks are chosen for each language, that information will be posted here. On average, students spend around $100 for textbooks each summer, and they will be available at the University Bookstore.

Even though APIP will provide 3 meals a day each day, students should plan to bring along, or have access to, extra spending money. You might want to head over to the Babcock Hall Dairy Store for ice cream, or you might meet your classmates down at the Union Terrace for a study session.

Laundry rates in Adams Hall are $2.00 for each washer load, and dryers are free. The same swipe cards used for meals will also be used for laundry access. Each room will be furnished with bedding consisting of sheets, a blanket, and pillow. Bedding exchange will occur once a week. As soon as it is available, we will post a link to a Housing Information sheet provided by University Housing Conference Services.

Parking

Parking on campus is very limited and very expensive, so please be sure to plan ahead. Parking for APIP 2009 was in lot 34, directly behind the Lakeshore Dorms. The cost for a 2009 APIP parking permit was $140. We will post new rates and information for the 2010 program as soon as it becomes available.
